Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. Oregon Criminal History does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
We may retain an email message long enough to answer it and maintain the related correspondence. The message remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a visitor loads a page, ordinary server and analytics tools may collect technical details about that visit:
- Page-view timestamps
- The referring website, when available
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved on a device. They and analytics services help us understand traffic in aggregate, such as which Oregon record pages are used most and where visits end. A browser can block cookies, though doing so may change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
- Measuring which pages are useful and which need improvement
- Routing a search request to the selected partner service
- Operating the website reliably and efficiently
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Oregon Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to records held by Oregon State Police CJIS, the Oregon Department of Corrections, the Oregon Sex Offender Online Search, Oregon courts, and public offices across all 36 counties. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a criminal-record file about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted to a tool is handled under that partner's privacy policy rather than this one. Each company sets its own retention and disclosure practices, which we do not control. Review the relevant policy before entering a search.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Oregon agencies, court portals, county offices, legal-aid resources, or commercial search services. After a visitor leaves Oregon Criminal History, the destination's policy governs the visit. Read that policy before providing personal details.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select targeted ads. We do not operate that cross-site tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. Limited information may be available to:
- Advertising networks that place content on the pages
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
- Search partners that process a query submitted to their tool
- A government body or law-enforcement agency acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for information we collect. No internet-connected service can guarantee perfect security, however, and Oregon Criminal History cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such information, we will delete it.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary with a visitor's location and the law that applies. The Oregon Public Records Law, ORS 192.311 through 192.478, governs records held by Oregon public bodies; it does not turn this private website into a public agency or make our visitor data a government record. Subject to applicable law, you may:
- Object to certain forms of processing
- Request deletion of personal data we retain
- Ask us to correct inaccurate personal information
- Request a copy of personal information we hold about you
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as practices or legal requirements change. A revised version becomes available on this page and carries a new effective date.
